Day 3 Wellington to Ohakune
I woke up late too today at about 10am after replying to work emails till 3am last night. The body is seriously not yet tuned into NZ time.
We made quick time to pack up, dress up and have breakfast and checked out of our first house by 12noon. First stop is to visit the Te Papa National Museum which is largely FOC. I am quite surprised at the quality of the exhibits even though it is free. We spent about an hour odd here learning about the natural and social history of NZ.
By the time we were done with the museum, it was past lunch time so we decided to skip the lunch at Palmerston and grab lunch at a Chinese restaurant nearby instead on Tory Street. Have to say the Chinese/Cantonese community in NZ makes me feel really at home here.
We arrived in Ohakune close to 7pm after 4 hours of driving from Wellington. Thankfully it didn’t take us long to find the chalet and it was in a much better liveable condition than the one in Wellington.
After settling in, we took a quick 5mins drive to the town centre but unfortunately most of the shops and eateries were already closed at 8pm, instead of 9pm. We managed to buy burgers from a bar that was just about to close and then went back to chalet to cook whatever else remained. We had some leftovers from lunch as well.
Once again, I ended up sleeping past 3am in order to catch up on the latest news from office. Tis truly a curse…
