Day 4 From Onomichi to Naruto
Today’s itinerary was largely driving through the Shikoku part of Japan. In the morning we took a really nice trek along a path that connected 7 temples in the area, some sort of a pilgrim journey. I have to say that Onomichi ended up being quite the surprise treat for our trip – we had originally planned for it to be only a pit stop but it delivered a real cultural treat to us.
After that we drove through the Shimano Kaido trail famous for its 60km of cycling trail cutting across 6 islands with its own unique suspension bridge. I had wanted to take on the cycling but Theo said it was impossible with luggage and tight itinerary. By evening we arrived at our pit stop in Naruto but not before squeezing in a one hour rush visit through an art museum exhibiting hundreds of classical artwork replicas through the centuries. It was quite a feast for the eyes to see all these beloved artworks under one roof without having to travel across Europe to see them.
Our accommodation for the night would be in a traditional Japanese house with tatami and futon. Nice!
