Day 5 Naruto to Asago

This morning we visited the famous Naruto whirlpools, a natural occurring phenomenon caused by the meeting of two opposite direction currents at high speed. Apparently water currents in the straits is the world’s third fastest.

From Naruto, it was another gruelling drive north towards Asago where we will be staying for the night with the hope of catching the fluffy clouds that inspired the Ghibli Studio animation Castle in the Sky. Heading north we stopped at the Awari flower fields which unfortunately were not in full bloom yet as we were a month early. However I did impress a local with my ability to read off a menu in hiragana. Heh. Later we made a quick stop in Kobe for lunch and some quick toy hunting.
