Day 3 Onwards to Darwin

Happy National Day Singapore and I felt just slightly guilty for not being home during this period. Another packed day of activities. First was to catch the Yellow Waters cruise which cut through the billabong and bring us up close and personal with the wildlife of the region and specifically home of the saltwater crocodiles, the fiercest of its kind and especially dangerous to humans. NT is almost overpopulated with the salties (local name for saltwater crocodiles) given their conservation status that it has even gotten dangerous to swim in natural water holes.

It was pretty cool that the captain of the ferry gave Benjamin and a few other young children a shot at steering the wheel for a few minutes.

After an entertaining cruise with our local guide, we had a quick lunch at Cooinda again before driving south to Gunlom Falls. I had not expected literally dirt road all the way in and we took a mighty long time learning how to drive 4WD on such terrain. We were rewarded with a fantastic view of the flood plains again (after a strenuous 40mins hike) and this time with an infinity pool to boot. While I love swimming in natural water holes, I have to say the rocks and moss combined don’t make for a very pleasant one. After the falls, we left Kakadu National Park and south to Katherine where we stayed for the night.
