Day 5 Berry Springs

Today we headed to Berry Springs for the local farmers market. Unfortunately some of the information was incorrectly printed on the tourist brochure I came across. Turned out that the farmers market would only be held on a different Saturday. Nonetheless we grabbed a really delicious and hearty breakfast at Crazy Acres farm famous for their mangoes.

Later we spent a good afternoon in the Territory Wildlife Park aka zoo where Ben had an up close and personal nocturnal animal encounter (wallabies and sugar glider) and Theo had the chance to feed giant manta ray. After the park, we took a dip at the Berry Springs nature reserve which had a really nice river to swim in. The experience of swimming in the wild, in a river with clear waters which allowed us to see the fish below us was amazing.

After we left Berry Springs, we chanced upon a rodeo competition taking place in a local stadium so we decided to join in the experience and had a pretty wild time cheering like the locals. I could never quite appreciate this sport but as long as it didn’t seem like there was any animal cruelty involved, I guess anything goes. If I were to sum up our time in the Northern Territories it would be natural, wild and free. I think if I lived here long enough, I might eventually embrace the Crocodile Dundee-esque lifestyle.
