Mr Love: Dream Date Chap 6 Rude Awakening

Chapter 6 carries on directly from the events of the last one after the unedited cut of the show was leaked online. To unlock this chapter, you will need to reach level 17. Considering how the story left off, I was pretty motivated to find out what happened. I like it that this chapter now cast its focus back on you as the main character as you tried to turn things around.

Spoilers ahead!

The saying goes that when it rains, it pours. You received concurrent calls from Loveland TV, threatening to sever ties with your studio, from the orphanage director demanding that you put a stop to the show production and also from LFG informing you that the audit committee would be suspending their funding paperwork until you sorted out the mess. In the midst of all this confusion, you accidentally placed a call to Victor. Though you tried to sound strong, Victor quickly came through for you and asked you how you intended to resolve the issue. With him as your sounding board, you quickly formulated a game plan and set out to resolve the problem.

You called for a press conference to deny the allegations while publicly apologising for the slip up in security (I hope you managed to find the culprit and sue him off his pants!). Loveland TV was pacified by the apology but said you would need to redo the entire video if they were to even consider airing your show. In the meantime, they would start to look at alternatives. You had only a day to turn things around. At the TV station, you caught Kiro filming for a commercial. He saw your despondent face. Though he wasn’t able to come after you, he sent his assistant to pass you a box of chocolate with a note which contains a timeless offer to star in your show. He also called you later to cheer you up and inform you that he would be away in Switzerland to record his single and will catch up with again when he is back.

Next stop you headed to the orphanage to clarify matters with the director and hopefully ask for a second chance. You were accosted at the orphanage by the throngs of journalist who had gathered there trying to interview the director. Seriously? These people have nothing better to write about? While trying to escape from the journalist, you bumped into Lucien who hid you in an old shed at an abandoned wing of the orphanage. While pressing against each other in close proximity, you could hear Lucien’s heartbeat. Lucien, you must be enjoying this very much. You managed to get away from the paparazzi while Lucien guided you through the abandoned wing to get to the director’s office. You learnt that something happened 17 years ago which had left this place deserted.

Everything seems to be coming together. 17 years ago, you were 5 years old, when you were almost knocked down by a car and saved by Victor. It was also during this time when your father started Miracle Finder, a show about superhumans. While you were rummaging through his old documents, you found a photo of an orphanage… and Gavin had cautioned you against coming here. You had memories of being locked up and a teddy bear cheering you up. This could possibly point to the fact that you might have once lived here with Kiro, a place for children with the Evol genes. Perhaps your father wasn’t really your father. And Lucien whom you had sat under a tree with might have tried to befriend or study you even.

Anyway, you are probably too preoccupied at this point to think about this and hurried on to find the director. At the recommendation of Lucien, the director decided to give you another chance provided you clear the pre-production with her first. Lucien then suggested that you pay a visit to the children before going back to work. Observing them a second time, you realised that they are unfazed by whatever is happening outside their own safe haven and this inspired you to approach the topic from a different perspective. Lucien is always so great at teaching and helping you discover the solution to your problems.

After working through the night to edit the show, it was finally time to send it for post production. You were overwhelmed by the activities of the day and soon fell asleep. You were started awake by another of your premonition dreams. This time you dreamt of Gavin against a backdrop of a thunderstorm looking menacingly at you. You tried to contact him to see if he was alright but he did not answer your call.

Next day you presented the edited version of the show to Loveland TV and the editor praised you for the new direction and decided to give you another chance. You then returned to Victor to explain how you had resolved the problem and asked that LFG proceeds with the funding. Victor complimented you for a job well done. Before you left, he asked if you really thought that he wouldn’t help you. Not knowing how to give a politically correct answer, he asked you matter of factly when had he never agreed to help you. Erm well yes, you have always helped me but only after seeing me squirm a gazillion times. Perhaps he felt slighted by your remark, so he grabbed your hand, left his office with you in toll and gave you a lift home. Well dude, you really need to learn to be more open with your feelings.

Few days later, Lucien and you watched the official broadcast of the documentary together with the children at the orphanage. The director praised you for a better second cut and commented that sometimes setbacks help us become stronger. You thanked her for her faith in you. As Lucien and you were wandering around the premises after the show, you realised that you had ended up at the abandoned wing. Suddenly the wind started to pick up. You had a bad feeling and just like your dream, you saw Gavin’s silhouette in the distance. You tried to call out to him but to no avail in the howling wind. Lucien pulled you behind him and erected a force field before him to protect you (so that is his power? I was so sure it was mind reading.) With a determined deadly stare, Gavin raised his pistol and shot towards you.

You could almost feel the anti-climatic grumbles of players as they realised they will need to reach level 30 in order to unlock chapter 7 and find out how exactly this was going to play out. Levelling up 8 levels is by far the longest leap in the game and I’m half wondering if the developers a. needed more time to produce the other chapters b. were trying to milk players for whatever it is worth to spend money, or c. wanted to filter casual players from serious players. Whatever the case may be, it would be at least a week of grinding to clear those eight levels. Thankfully I had an ongoing event to keep me going.
