Tears of Themis – Mysteries of Lost Gold Event

Mihoyo certainly knows how to keep its players busily happy and its wallets jingling launching its second time-limited event “Mysteries of Lost Gold” just after passing its one-month anniversary on 3 September 2021. After working together for the first time to uncover the truth behind Jasmine Kender’s death, it is time for a team building getaway for the NXX team members. Unfortunately, what should have been an exciting treasure hunt ala romantic escapade on the island of Nosta brought to light a murder that happened 10 years ago with the four male leads having their own agenda for wanting to come to the island.

Background: The history of Nosta Island located in the Atlantic Ocean can be traced back to a thousand years ago. During the Era of Navigation, the island was known as a travel hub for pirates so there are many legends about pirate treasure. Later, the island came under the occupation of Nation A who had then converted the island as a prison for exiled prisoners. Presently, Marius had bought over the developmental rights to the island and is the location of a Treasure Island event organised by Pax Group. Participants will receive a treasure map and the first person to decipher the clues and find the treasure will win a $5 million cash prize.

How to Explore:

The Nosta Island has four key areas – Beach, Forest, Mountains and Outer Island. To discover the truth behind the mystery of the lost gold, you will need to unlock the entire map made up of 98 areas. You can tell which area will unlock whose route based on the resource requirements needed.

To explore each hexagonal area will require adequate supplies which your team members will dutifully gather throughout the day (max of 16 x 1-hour slots). You can assign each member to gather a specific resource – wood, ration, medicine and water though they have different levels of efficiencies. E.g. Luke is good for wood (best outdoors man to have), Vyn for medicine (since he is the only doctor), Artem for food (we know he can fish and cook) and Marius for water (Pax sponsored water bottles). These orders can be set at the Work Orders segment in your campsite.

Under Facility Control, you can use Universal Parts that you find during your exploration missions to upgrade your camp – increase influence or defence of your cards or boost supply collection efficiency.

The NPC who broke the 4th wall – Zangr Stewart

With the right amount of resources, you will be able to explore new areas on the map in any order you prefer. The beach area is your landing spot and campsite and where the tutorial will guide you to complete. You will also learn the truth behind each of the member’s reason for coming to the island during this main storyline. Once you enter the Forest, the next area, the main story will branch out into four side stories which you can explore in turn with one of the main character.

During your exploration, you may either progress the story, explore an area to pick up supplies and engage in mediation battles (4 levels with power requirements ranging from 6775 to 94243), or find an item which may become a crucial piece of evidence or equipment to aid you in your investigation or exploration. For example to scale a steep slope in Vyn’s route, you will need climbing rope that you will pick up on Marius’ route. This forces you to advance the four routes together so the story progression is coherent. However from a realistic point of view, I cannot imagine how you can be in four places at a time.

The team will reunite again in the outer islands, after you leave the mountain area.

Claimable Rewards:

  1. Complete the tutorial to receive Tears of Themis – Pursuit x 1. These are special tears to be used to pull event-only SSR visions. Unused Tears of Themis – Pursuit will be converted to the normal tears after the event. You can exchange 1,440 S-chips to 10x Tears of Themis – Pursuit which makes it a really good bargain compared to the usual 1,800 S-chips required. The only catch is that you can only convert this 6x.
  2. Log in daily for a total of 11 days to receive 4 event-limited R cards, Tears of Themis – Limited x 14 (can only be used for the event pulls, once expired it will be converted into 10,000 Stellin per tear
  3. Complete the Mysteries of Lost Gold event and claim 1,560 S-chips
  4. Complete event stories to claim a new invitation “Sea Breeze” from the Exchange Shop. You will need to 10,000 hunter badges for this.
  5. Complete event tasks to receive Hunter’s Badges, event-limited R cards, Treasure Hunter badge and S-chips for first time completions. Add event-limited SSR and R cards to your deck (both main and support deck) to increase badge drops by up to 10%.
  6. Collect Hunter’s Badges to exchange for items from the Exchange Shop, including Tears of Themis – Pursuit x 10 (require 10,000 hunter badges). You will need to use the badges to redeem all the items in the graduate tier, before the junior tier is unlocked, and so forth.

If you are not able to defeat the fourth level of mediation battle (like me )= ), then you will have to contend with getting 108 badges per battle (bonus from R cards, assuming no event SSR). To accumulate 20,000 badges for the tears and invitation means grinding about 185 times which will require 3700 AP. Since 1 AP is replenished every 6 minutes, this is equivalent to needing 15 days without use of any energy drinks to achieve. Happy grinding!

In short, participating and completing this event can reap you 35x pulls from the event Vision. I’ve dutifully saved enough S-chips to make 115 pulls with the hopes of at least getting Marius’ SSR card.

You have to really give credit to Mihoyo for going the extra mile to build a game inside another game, and is probably the reason why they are such strong contenders to Tencent despite having much lesser financial backing. Have fun exploring the island of Nosta and enjoy that sweet moment with your exploration partner.
