Holidaying in comfort
I just signed a SGD890 credit charge for a 5-day accommodation located on Railay Beach. Railay is located to the west of Krabi town, a stretch of beach that juts out into the Andaman Sea and sealed from road access by limestone karsts. It is supposedly one of the most beautiful beaches in Krabi and a great place for rock climbing ethusiasts.
Second to the luxurious 5-star Rayavadee which has claimed prime beach estate, Railay Bay Beach Resort offers a wide selection of accommodation types to cater to different budgets. We were enticed by the king-sized bed, sun lounger and jacuzzi right within the compounds of the privacy cottage so were willing to spend a bit more to live in comfort. The low season rate of 4,560 bahts is applicable up to 31st October. The resort is also offering a stay 3 – 5 nights, get one night free promotion.
Initially I had planned my trip to stretch into November but I realised that peak period starts then and everything becomes about 50% more expensive so I decided to time our trip a few days earlier. I mean the weather couldn’t possibly change so drastically in a few days. I will let you know if I am right.
According to the website, other than spending the whole day soaking up Vitamin D and snorkelling in the crystal clear waters, potential activities we could take part in include island hopping (perhaps to Phi Phi Island which is about 2 hours away by ferry), elephant trekking and exploring the Princess Cave.
As the beach is rather cut off from the mainland, transportation is limited to long tail boats from Ao Nang, a more happening beach further westwards. Part of my planned itinerary include making an overnight trip to Phang Nga bay to see the hongs, a geological wonder of limestone formations jutting out of the sea. But it would mean forfeiting one night’s accommodation which would be rather wasteful.
As it is, my husband’s idea is to book the flight and accommodation and then let nature take its course, which would probably mean sun-tanning, snorkelling and lazing in bed. He can be so indifferent!
